Sea change

Apologies for my absence. We had a little family getaway to break up the school holidays. School holidays. My goodness they can be exhausting! Oddly though, our relaxing holiday to get away from it all was possibly even more exhausting.

Still it was a lovely (if freezing cold and mostly rainy), little part of the world. It had beautiful craggy cliffs, rolling green hills, wild seas and a quaint country market (when I put it like that, I couldn’t plan a more perfect holiday for myself).

Winter is my favourite time of year for the beach. No sunscreen, bikinis or swimming – just wild weather and beautiful scenery.

I’m not very good at relaxing. I didn’t take anything crafty to keep my hands busy and so I found myself either pottering around doing housework or sitting and twiddling my thumbs. I soon found myself itching to get back to making.

I did ease my anxiety with a couple of vintage purchases though. This is my third vintage (bark cloth?) tablecloth purchase in this style. I just love the garish combination of rich mustard with voluptuous magenta roses. I’ve made myself a shift dress from this fabric in the past – it frays easily but hangs beautifully, so I might try that again, but I’m also thinking cushions…

I also found this sweet little jug that I really don’t need and am having trouble finding a horizontal surface for. But that’s the thing about vintage shopping – what if I never see one like it again? I just couldn’t live with that sort of regret 😉

Back home now, sewing again and trying to keep three small boys entertained for the rest of the rainy school holidays.
